Finished basements in Northern Virginia and Maryland homes sit below grade and face specific challenges: moisture management, low headroom from existing ductwork, egress window requirements for bedroom spaces, and load-bearing columns that have to be incorporated into the floor plan. Dzala draws and builds around all of these.

We handle egress window installation, waterproofing and drainage, framing to avoid ductwork conflicts, drywall, electrical, and finishes. For in-law suites we add a kitchenette and full bathroom. For home theaters we pre-wire for screen, projector, surround sound, and control systems.

Why Dzala

Basements built for Northern Virginia humidity

A finished basement that was not waterproofed correctly will show moisture problems within five years. Dzala uses dimple-mat drainage, vapor barriers behind framing, and sealed penetrations at every pipe and column. Egress windows are permitted and installed before framing starts.

  • Proper moisture management built in
  • Egress permits handled by Dzala
  • Adds legal livable square footage
  • Increases home resale value

Frequently asked

Questions clients ask before booking.

Cannot find what you are looking for? Send a question.

Do I need an egress window to finish my basement in Virginia?

Yes — any basement room intended as a sleeping room requires an egress window meeting IRC code dimensions (minimum 5.7 sq ft opening). Dzala handles the excavation, window installation, and permit. Non-sleeping recreation rooms do not require egress.

How do you handle moisture in a Northern Virginia basement?

We install dimple-mat drainage board against the foundation wall before framing, use unfaced fiberglass insulation or rigid foam in the cavity, and seal every penetration. If there is an active water intrusion issue, we address drainage before framing.
