Frequently asked questions.
General
Is Dzala licensed and insured to work in Virginia, Maryland, and DC?
Yes. Dzala General Contractor LLC holds general contracting credentials and is insured, and carries general liability and workers compensation insurance. Copies of our license and insurance certificates are available on request before any project begins.
Where does Dzala serve in the DMV?
Dzala serves Washington DC, and eleven Northern Virginia and Maryland communities: Alexandria, Arlington, Bethesda, Falls Church, Great Falls, Herndon, McLean, Potomac, Reston, Tysons, and Vienna. Our office is based in Tysons, which puts us within 20 minutes of most of these communities. Projects outside this area are possible on a case-by-case basis — reach out to discuss.
Pricing
What does a kitchen remodel cost in Northern Virginia?
A mid-range full kitchen remodel in Northern Virginia typically runs $40,000 to $80,000 depending on size, layout changes, cabinetry, and appliance selection. Projects with structural work (wall removal, load-bearing beam) or high-end fixture packages (name-brand fixtures throughout, natural stone countertops) land toward the higher end. Dzala provides itemized written estimates after the on-site consultation — no ballpark guessing before we measure.
What does a bathroom remodel cost in the DC area?
A full bathroom remodel in the DC area typically costs $15,000 to $35,000. The primary cost variables are size, fixture tier (name-brand mid-range versus specification-grade), tile selection, and whether asbestos abatement or plumbing rerouting is required. Dzala provides itemized written estimates with no obligation after the site visit.
Does Dzala charge for estimates?
No. Dzala provides free on-site estimates with no commitment required. We visit the site, assess existing conditions, measure, and provide a written itemized estimate. We do not provide ballpark numbers over the phone because DMV homes vary too much by age, condition, and existing infrastructure for phone estimates to be reliable.
Timeline
How long does a kitchen remodel take in the DMV?
A full kitchen remodel in Northern Virginia or DC typically takes 6 to 10 weeks from permit approval through final punch-out, depending on scope. Permit review in Fairfax County runs 4 to 8 weeks before construction can begin — Dzala factors this into the project schedule so there are no surprises. We provide a written schedule at estimate and update it weekly throughout the build.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A full bathroom remodel with Dzala typically completes in 3 to 5 weeks from the start of work. If asbestos or lead-paint abatement is required (common in pre-1980 DMV homes), add 3 to 5 days for abatement and air clearance testing before demo can begin. We sequence abatement into the project schedule so it does not add net calendar time where possible.
How long does a home addition take from design through completion?
A rear bump-out or home addition in Northern Virginia typically takes 4 to 6 months from the start of design through certificate of occupancy. Permit review for additions in Fairfax County runs 4 to 8 weeks, and in Montgomery County 6 to 10 weeks. Dzala begins material procurement during the permit window so construction can start the week the permit is issued.
Process
Does Dzala handle permits, or do I have to do that?
Dzala handles all permit applications as part of the project. We prepare and submit architectural and structural drawings to the relevant jurisdiction (Fairfax County, Arlington County, Montgomery County, DC DCRA) and track permit status on your behalf. You do not need to visit a permit office or manage the application process.
Can Dzala design ADA-compliant bathrooms and home modifications?
Yes. ADA-compliant bathroom design — curbless shower entries, grab-bar blocking, 60-inch turning clearances, and wider doorways — is part of Dzala's standard capability set. We also design accessible kitchen layouts with lowered counter sections and knee clearance. Aging-in-place and accessibility modifications are available as standalone projects or as part of a larger remodel.
Materials
What fixture and material brands does Dzala use?
Dzala specifies name-brand for plumbing fixtures (sinks, faucets, shower systems, toilets) and name-brand for tile and sanitaryware across most residential projects. Countertops are sourced from local DMV slab yards in quartz, natural stone (various granite, quartz, and natural stone options), quartzite, and porcelain slab. Custom cabinetry uses domestic and imported hardwood with soft-close hardware. We do not substitute builder-grade materials without telling you.
Warranty
What warranty does Dzala provide on its work?
Dzala provides a written written warranty terms on all work we perform. Materials carry the manufacturer's warranty, which for Name-brand plumbing fixtures is a lifetime limited warranty and for most tile brands is 10 to 25 years against manufacturing defect. Structural work is warranted against defect for one year and is backed by the building permit and final inspection record. We provide all warranty documentation at project close-out.
